How To Start Seeds Indoors

The do-s and don't-s of starting seeds from scratch
Every great grow starts with a seed. Here are the do-s and don’t-s of starting yours.
Don’t start your seeds near a window. Seeds need constant light and stable temperature to grow properly, and windows can be drafty and inconsistently lit. Instead;
Do start your seeds under artificial grow lights. Grow lights provide constant levels of light and temperature that you can control, and won’t be exposed to fluctuating outdoor temperatures that leak in through the window.
Don’t forget what you planted. Sprouts can look the same in their early stages, so it’s easy to lose track of which plant is what.
Do label your seeds. It’s as easy as using popsicle sticks or writing on the side of the growing container. Different plants need different care as they grow, so labelling the plants as will help you care for each type properly.
Don’t let your soil get cold. When soil temperature is too low, seeds will take in water without beginning to grow, which leads to disease and rot.
Do maintain heat for your seeds to promote healthy germination. You can utilize a heat mat and soil thermometer to maintain an optimum temperature.
Don’t leave your plants in their original container once they begin to sprout. As they grow, the sprouts can get crowded and begin to compete for space and light. When this happens, the plants become leggy and long.
Do transplant the sprouts to bigger containers to give them sufficient room and ensure that they will grow into strong, healthy plants.
Don’t wash your seeds away.
Do water them gently to prevent disrupting them in the soil. Bottom water or use a misting spray bottle to protect them.
